This book jumped off the shelf at me because of one word that isn’t even in the title, really: SELF.

(Also, managing.)

You see, I was just getting ready to transition from a great job (I still miss you guys, by the way!) to working for myself. I was going from managing a department and a small staff, which was both enormously challenging and enormously rewarding, into writing for a living. While totally confident that this was the right decision, I did have some concerns; who, for example, was going to manage me?

I have left the security and enjoyment of a great job with really good people to strike out on my own and see if I can make a career out of creative work.
